The prefecture orders the requisition of striking agents to collect the 2,500 tons of waste

“While all the other unions have signed, we will not let a few members of a union take all the Marseillais hostage”, advances Yves Moraine (LR) when he learns that FO agents intend to continue the strike movement waste collection despite the agreement reached with the other unions.

In an attempt to put an end to this conflict, or at least to mitigate its effects, the metropolis sent Wednesday evening to the police headquarters a request for requisitions from striking agents in order to get everyone back to work. A provision that was implemented on Thursday, the Bouches-du-Rhône police headquarters said in a press release.

Recourse to the private sector to remedy sick leaves

“The agents necessary for the restoration of good order and public health are requisitioned by prefectural decree from Thursday, December 16 to Monday, December 20,” wrote the prefecture in a press release. “2,500 tonnes of waste are present in the streets of Marseille and Aubagne,” says the prefecture.

In addition, the metropolis also uses the services of a private waste collection company. This officially in order “to remedy the sick leaves which are numerous”, explains the administration.

Some striking agents declared themselves on sick leave rather than on strike in order to avoid too heavy losses of wages, allowing recourse to the private sector. Otherwise, it would be an infringement of the right to strike.
