The Gironde prefecture has banned a “cyclonudist event for the climate, biodiversity and freedoms” scheduled for Sunday in Bordeaux, we learned Saturday from the organizers and the prefecture.
In its decree taken Friday evening, the latter considers in particular that the fact that “the organizers announced that the wearing of clothing would be optional” during the World naked bike ride Bordeaux 2021 and the fact that its schedule (14h00-18h00) “favors exposure to the greatest number ”are“ such as to characterize the offense of sexual exhibition in application of article 222–32 of the penal code ”.
Covered event or nothing
The organizers, including the Naturist Movement, said in a press release that they had filed an interim relief at the administrative court and called for a support rally on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the starting point of the demonstration. “The prefecture offered us yesterday (Friday) a course that we had accepted but there was a turnaround an hour later,” said Nicolas Guibert, local representative of the naturist movement.
According to the prefecture, the receipt issued on September 1 to the organizers specified that the demonstration “could only take place on the condition that the demonstrators cover the sexual parts with clothing, as well as the breasts for women” but “the organizers confirmed their intention to demonstrate naked ”.
Demonstration for the climate law
The participants had to “ride for a real climate law, animal protection, biodiversity and freedoms, the promotion of non-polluting means of transport and the protection of cyclists”, according to the organizers. Hundreds of “World naked bike rides” have been organized since 2001 in around twenty countries, according to the organizers, who explain in their press release that “these events are also an opportunity to celebrate the culture of free bodies”.
“This is what bothers Madam the Prefect who thinks that this type of demonstration risks causing disturbances to public order”, they say.
