The prefectural decree revoked, the terraces will remain open in the center of Toulouse

A new day of glory for Stade Toulousain and its supporters? – Frédéric Scheiber / 20 Minutes

The terraces in central Toulouse will remain open until 9 p.m. on Saturday, decided on Friday evening
administrative justice. The prefect of Haute-Garonne wanted them to close at 7 p.m. to avoid possible overflows after the final of the European Rugby Cup between La Rochelle and Stade Toulousain.

Highlighting the health risks associated with Covid-19, a prefectural decree dated Thursday obliged cafes in the city center to close their terraces on Saturday at 7 p.m. and prohibited them from any television broadcasting of the match played on Saturday at Twickenham, at 5.45 p.m. (French time).

A “clearly disproportionate” measure

At the request of several organizations of traders, the Administrative Court (TA) of Toulouse suspended the article providing for the early closure of terraces, qualifying this measure as “clearly disproportionate”. The TA notes in particular that, unlike the prefect of Haute-Garonne, that of Charentes-Maritimes limited itself to prohibiting “the retransmission of the match, leaving open the terraces of drinking establishments and restaurants in the city of La Rochelle” .

The general delegate of the CGPME in Haute-Garonne, Nicolas Poux, said he was “satisfied” with the decision of the TA, judging it normal that there is no difference between Toulouse and other cities including, in particular , La Rochelle.
