Reunion Island follows in Martinique’s footsteps and is reconfigured for two weeks from this weekend. The prefect of the Overseas Territory, Jacques Billant, announced on Thursday that partial confinement would apply during the day to the department, which is suffering the full brunt of a new wave of Covid-19 contaminations, like many other territories of the West Indies. This means that bars, restaurants and gyms are closing. The prefect also indicated that gatherings of more than six people were prohibited.
As in Guadeloupe, the prefecture of Reunion has also opted for a curfew to slow the progression of the virus. This will apply from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. As a result, travel certificates are again compulsory. During the day, travel around the home is authorized within a radius of 10 km from Monday to Saturday, and within a radius of 5 km on Sunday.
Jacques Billant underlines that the Reunionese will only be able to “come and go, within a radius of 10 km, in the stores” where the mask must be worn continuously. According to the prefect, the incidence rate of the coronavirus in Reunion is currently 350 per 100,000 inhabitants. A new assessment should be made in ten days.
