The group and the Verdi union agree on a collective agreement that will raise salaries for low earners by a fifth. However, this is a further burden for the company’s ailing mail business.

Indefinite strikes by postmen have probably been averted, but it will be expensive for the group: Deutsche Post DHL and the Verdi service union met on Saturday new collective agreement agreed for the 160,000 employees in Germany. The contract runs for two years until the end of 2024 and, according to the Bonn-based Dax company, provides for wage increases of an average of 11.5 percent. Verdi had demanded an increase of 15 percent for a period of only one year – so there would have been salary negotiations again in 2024.
