The police officer responsible for the shooting is released and placed under judicial supervision

The police officer responsible for the death of Nahel on June 27 in Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine) was released under judicial supervision, according to the Nanterre public prosecutor’s office, which confirms information from France Inter.

His lawyer filed a new request for release last Thursday, the public prosecutor said. The investigating judges “decided to grant it, considering that the legal criteria for the pre-trial detention of the police officer incarcerated since June 29, 2023 no longer appeared to be met at this stage of the investigation,” added the prosecution.

Florian M., 38, indicted for murder, was questioned Thursday by the investigating judges.

Placed under judicial supervision, he must “pay a bond” and is prohibited from coming into contact with witnesses and civil parties, “from appearing in Nanterre” and from “holding a weapon”, detailed this same source.

The death of Nahel, a 17-year-old teenager, during a road check, was the trigger for several nights of urban violence in the Paris region and in the rest of the country. They were marked by scenes of looting, fireworks mortars fired at public buildings and fires.
