The point on the next mobilizations

The government refuses to give in and the unions are preparing for a long showdown over pension reform. The protest movement against the postponement of the legal age of departure to 64 years could be part of the long term. Several days of mobilization are already planned in the coming weeks. 20 minutes offers you a point on these dates in order to see more clearly.

Saturday February 11

The fourth day of mobilization is fast approaching. The inter-union expects a more massive challenge than Tuesday. The unions are trying, in the meantime, to keep the flame of protest alive: the TGV, TER, Transilien and Intercités networks experienced new disruptions on Wednesday, two railway unions (CGT-Cheminots and SUD-Rail) having again called for an end work.

The TotalEnergies strikers also renewed the strike. Anxious not to make their action unpopular, the railway workers’ federations did not, however, call for a strike on Saturday, the first day of vacation for zone B and half-time for those in zone A.

Thursday February 16

The eight main unions have agreed on a fifth day of mobilization on February 16 against the pension reform. “The next demonstrations will show the extent of the protest,” said the first secretary of the Socialist Party, Olivier Faure, on Wednesday.

Tuesday, March 7

The sixth day of mobilization is already planned. The unions are calling for a total and renewable strike throughout the country from March 7, 2023. The movement could harden from that date, if no concessions have still been made by the executive and while the reform is quite unpopular. “There will be a big day on the 7th,” warned Yvan Ricordeau, the national secretary of the CFDT on Thursday.

Wednesday, March 8

The mobilization will continue for Wednesday, March 8. According to the national secretary of the CFDT, a “particular initiative in connection with the International Day of Women’s Rights” has been planned for this day. The pension reform is accused by the opposition of being particularly unfavorable to women. In particular because the postponement of the retirement age to 64 years will cancel for some women the years gained thanks to the birth of their children.
