The players of Paris Saint-Germain appointed this Tuesday, according to our information, Marquinhos as captain for the 2023-2024 season. A choice recorded after a secret ballot which confirms the maintenance of the Brazilian defender in this role.
Elected captain for the trip to Toulouse, Marquinhos then found himself at the heart of a curious imbroglio at PSG. If the conditions of his election before the match against Téfécé had caused some internal turmoil, the players of Luis Enrique voted this Tuesday by secret ballot. According to information from RMC Sport, they have opted to keep the Brazilian as the team’s captain for the 2023-2024 season.
Part of the Parisian locker room, where he is the second oldest player in the squad behind Marco Verratti, Marquinhos has played more than 400 games in the jersey of PSG. Partner of the former owner Thiago Silva, he recovered the captain’s armband in 2020 after the departure of his compatriot to Chelsea.

Luis Enrique let the players choose
Captain under the orders of Thomas Tuchel then confirmed by Mauricio Pochettino and Christophe Galtier, the 29-year-old central defender will therefore remain under the orders of Luis Enrique for the coming season. The Spanish coach had entrusted his players with choosing their captain as he explained before the match against Toulouse.
“For me, it’s very simple: I don’t choose the captains, declared Luis Enrique on the eve of the match against Toulouse in the league. It’s the players who choose. They vote and decide who represents them. […] There are four captains. As a coach, my experience tells me that it’s not my job to pick captains. This would be the coach’s captain. No, I want a player captain.”
Note that Kylian Mbappé is one of the three Parisian vice-captains. In the absence of the Brazilian defender this season, the striker could therefore play with the armband.
