The Plancoët water brand accelerates on returnable glass

With approximately 25 million bottles produced per year, Plancoët is of course no match for the giants who dominate the bottled water market in France. But on its Breton lands, natural mineral water from Plancoët (Côtes-d’Armor) has managed to impose its mark.

A leader in the regional market, the company is now seeking, like all companies, to reduce its carbon footprint. This requires the development of the glass deposit that the government wishes to generalize in 2025. Since this summer, Plancoët has been distributing two ranges of 33 centilitre bottles made of recycled glass to cafes, hotels and restaurants.

Achieve 95% returnable glass bottles

“The returnable glass bottle has a carbon impact five times greater than a single-use glass bottle,” the brand points out, citing a study by the La Maison des eaux naturelle naturelle union. “And this measure is even more effective when the bottles are collected within a radius of less than 200 kilometers, which corresponds to 95% of the Plancoët distribution area,” she continues in a press release.

To operate this shift, the Breton company has invested one million euros in its production line and its fleet of glass and racks. Plancoët is not starting from scratch either, since 80% of the 5.5 million glass bottles it produces per year are already on deposit. She hopes to eventually “reach 95%. »
