One more year without this flagship event in the Camargue. In a press release, the prefect of Bouches-du-Rhône and the prefect of police of the department announce their decision to cancel the pilgrimage of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. Originally scheduled for May 24-26, this traditional event brings together around 20,000 people, especially people from the travel community around the world.

It will not take place “because of the health context,” said this press release. Already last year, the gypsy pilgrimage to Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer was canceled by the authorities, again due to the covid-19 epidemic raging in France.
