The passage of a “validated” wolf in the north of the department

The Vienne prefecture indicates this Friday that a “wolf was photographed on November 16 in the town of Martaizé [au nord de Poitiers] » and that the photograph “has just been validated by the National Wolf Network. » “No predation” has, however, been reported in the area so far.

This confirmation of the passage of a wolf in the department “is not a first”: five attacks were validated as “wolf not excluded” in spring 2023, in the municipalities of Bouresse, Gouex, Millac, Availles-Limousine and La Trimouille. Previously, two sightings of the wolf passing by had been confirmed in 2021.

Need to report any findings of predation

The system for monitoring the arrival of the wolf in the department has been in place since 2020, reinforced by the monitoring unit officially installed in January 2023, allowing all partners to be informed of any new validated index.

The prefect recalls the need for breeders to report “without delay” any observation of predation on livestock which could involve wolves, via the dedicated hotline telephone number, managed by the departmental territorial directorate (DDT): 05.49.03.13. 39.
