The Paris prosecutor’s office opens an investigation after the publication of racist tweets targeting the Blues

Bitterness and disappointment have given way to hatred. Monday, June 28, after the defeat of the Blues against Switzerland, the social network Twitter was invaded by swarms of racist messages. Described as a “dirty nigger” in many tweets, the striker Kylian Mbappé, at the origin of a fateful shot on goal, was particularly targeted.

Reported to the Pharos platform, the service of the central direction of the judicial police which tracks illegal content on the Internet, some accounts at the origin of these insults have since been suspended by Twitter. Reports which also led the Paris prosecutor’s office to open an investigation against X from June 30 for “public insult of a racist nature”, learned 20 minutes this Tuesday. The investigations were entrusted to the Central Office for the Fight against Crime Related to Information and Communication Technologies (OCLCTIC).

A report sent by SOS Racisme

In a press release released last week, SOS Racisme indicated that it had reported these facts to the public prosecutor. “We ask the justice to carry out all due diligence in order to find the authors of these tweets and to take the necessary measures so that such a word is punished”, explained the association. For its president, Dominique Sopo, “the nature of the insults, in particular those against Killian M’Bappé, also shows to what extent the inferiorization of blacks, constantly sent back to the racists on a slave condition, is based on well-anchored representations that it is more than ever necessary to tackle ”.

The same day, Martinican deputy Serge Letchimy sent a letter to the Minister of Justice, Eric Dupond-Moretti, condemning “abusive, racist remarks against football player Kylian Mbappé”. Mobilized on this subject, the Representative Council of Black Associations (Cran) also expressed its support for the player of the France team and announced its intention to file a complaint.
