The panel expands to the west – Fürstenfeldbruck

The Maisacher Tafel gets a branch. In Mammendorf there will be a distribution of donated food every Tuesday from March. This offer is aimed specifically at Ukrainian refugees from the communities of Mammendorf and Oberschweinbach. The other authorized persons will continue to be served on Tuesdays and Fridays in the Maisacher Tafel. The reason for the expansion is not least the fact that an additional refugee facility for up to one hundred people is planned in Mammendorf.

In the past year, the four food banks in the district have reached the limits of their capacity due to growing poverty on the one hand and more and more refugees on the other. Additional issue days have been introduced to cut queues in half. The evangelical church in Fürstenfeldbruck, in the immediate vicinity of the table there, has already responded and is offering a free lunch on Tuesdays, initially limited to mid-March. The Catholic parishes have set up a soup kitchen.

The food banks, which are sponsored by the community foundation for the district of Fürstenfeldbruck, have also long since become active in the procurement of food: in addition to increased cooperation with groups of food rescuers, there has been a central storage facility with refrigeration facilities in Olching for several months. This significantly increases the capacity for longer-term storage. If, for example, a freezer suddenly breaks down in a supermarket, the Tafel can now remove everything and store it temporarily – without the warehouse, it was only a small part. The four food banks currently provide around 2,500 people in Olching, Fürstenfeldbruck, Maisach, Puchheim and Eichenau with donated food and hygiene items every week. The demand is constantly growing.

The Maisacher Tafel alone, whose catchment area extends to Althegnenberg and the A 8, provided around 150 percent more customers with food last year than in previous years; it currently supports around 400 people every week. In April 2022, the Maisacher Tafel set up an additional edition on Fridays in order to be able to cope with the growth of Ukrainian war refugees. But even this is currently reaching its limits.

For this reason and in view of the planned accommodation for refugees, the Maisacher Tafel will now expand to Mammendorf. Similar to Maisach, the food is to be handed out relatively centrally, in the old grocer’s shop in the Schamberger building, Nikolausstraße 3, directly behind the Catholic church. The panel will start there on Tuesday, March 7th, and open once a week between 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. – but exclusively for Ukrainian refugees from Mammendorf and Oberschweinbach.

The food bank is still looking for up to six volunteers to hand out the groceries in the shop so that the teams can take turns. In addition, according to their own statements, food donations, especially long-life products such as flour, sugar, pasta, rice, milk or canned food, are “urgently needed”. Due to the sharp rise in prices, monetary donations are always welcome, because the transport of the goods is also becoming more and more expensive.

The Maisacher Tafel and the community foundation are grateful to Mayor Josef Heckl and the Mammendorf municipal council for the “quick and unbureaucratic help” in the search for a suitable shop, as the foundation reports. Mammendorf has shown a high level of commitment to supporting and integrating refugees for years – the new issue of the table fits in well with this.
