With many new actors and a few old faces: The event series “Der Palast” is entering its second season on ZDF.

A funding announcement from the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg that became public in the summer of 2023 had already suggested that, now it is official: “The Palace” is getting a second season. Like that ZDF announced on Tuesday that filming started at the end of March this year. As with the first season in 2021, the six new episodes are directed by Uli Edel (77, “Christiane F. – We Children from Bahnhof Zoo”).

The first season ended with the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. The new episodes now begin in 1990. In the Friedrichstadt-Palast, half the auditorium remains empty. Ballet director Regina Feldmann (Jeanette Hain, 55) is annoyed with the West German artistic director Gerd Kolberg (Benno Fürmann, 52). She is trying to reintroduce the famous kickline to the variety show.

The second season follows the careers of three young newcomers to the Friedrichstadt-Palast ensemble. Karla (Taynara Silva-Wolf, 27) quickly establishes herself, while Luise (Lary Müller) has to fight. Meanwhile, her brother Lukas (Lukas Brandl, 29) has to deal with other problems.

“The Palace”: These actors are new, these are still there

Jeanette Hain is one of the few stars from season one who will also be back in the new episodes. Svenja Jung (30), who played the double main role in the first round, is missing, as are Heino Ferch (60) and Anja Kling (54). Marc Hosemann (53) and Matthias Matschke (55) are among the few other remaining actors.

In addition to the still relatively unknown young mimes and top star Benno Führmann, Bernhard Schir (61) is new.

Filming will continue until July 2024 on the stage of the real Friedrichstadt Palace and in Krakow and the surrounding area. A broadcast date has not yet been fixed.

The first season of “The Palace” was a great success for ZDF with an average of 6.5 million viewers. According to the broadcaster, there were also high numbers of views in the media library.
