The Orpheus Choir with sacred music by Schnittke and Tchaikovsky – Munich

Exactly 100 years lie between the creation of Peter Tchaikovsky’s third “Cherubian Song” from 1884 and Alfred Schnittke’s “Drei Geistliche Gesänge”. Since both, as liturgical music, refer to similar sources and traditional formulas, the distance shrank so much that it was hardly noticeable when listening. And because the audience in the Sendling Ascension Church was so mesmerized at the concert by the Orpheus Choir under Gerd Guglhör, they didn’t applaud in between.
