The Opera cancels part of its season due to financial difficulties

The decision was not taken lightly. Due to “cumulative” financial difficulties linked to “the drop in subsidies”, the “energy crisis”, “inflation” as well as the “social crisis due to the pension reform which led to the cancellation of many shows”, the Opéra de Lyon has announced several changes for the coming months in order to “limit its deficit for 2023”.

As a result, several performances or events will be cancelled, starting with the open house scheduled for May 6. opera We’re purging Baby !, which was scheduled of June 5 to 17, will be postponed to a later season. The Péristyle festival, which was to be held from June 22 to June 5, is also falling by the wayside.

Finally, the Opera announced that it would be exceptionally closed for one month this summer, from July 15 to August 15.
