The oldest mayor in France has died at 101

He was a hundred years old and still held his position as mayor of Saint-Seurin-sur-l’isle, a small town of around 3,000 souls, in Libournais. The disappearance of Marcel Berthomé, a local and atypical figure, particularly due to his longevity at the head of a municipality, was announced this Tuesday, October 24 by Philippe Buisson, the mayor of Libourne.

An exhibition in spring, to pay tribute to him

In a text published on social networks, he salutes an “emblematic mayor”, who administered his commune for “nine mandates and 48 years”. He also looks back on the exceptional career of Marcel Berthomé who spent 29 years in the air force and finished with the rank of commander and “countless decorations”.

Next April, celebrations were to take place for his 102nd birthday. This will be an opportunity for the city of Libourne to dedicate an exhibition to this personality “with a thousand lives”.
