The unemployment rate continues to decline. In France (including overseas departments, excluding Mayotte), the number of job seekers amounts to 3,016,000 for the category A (without activity), in the first quarter of 2023, according to data from the Department of Research, Studies and Statistics (Dares), published on Wednesday 26 April. The number of unemployed thus fell by 1.2% over the quarter. Over one year, the drop is 5.9%.

All categories combined, the number of unemployed stood at 5,369,300. It fell by 0.4% over this quarter and by 3.0% over one year.

“In mainland France, the number of job seekers in category A fell by 1.3% (-35,600) this quarter and by 5.8% over one year”, specifies the Dares. In addition, in the first quarter of 2023, 2,288,100 job seekers engaged in reduced activity (categories B, C). The number of people carrying out a short reduced activity (category B) increased by 0.3% compared to the previous quarter. That of people in long-term reduced activity (category C) increased by 0.9%.

In the last quarter of 2022, the number of job seekers amounted to 3 049 800 for the category AT, according to Dares data, published on January 25, a fall in the number of unemployed by 3.6% over the quarter. This was the lowest level of unemployment since the third quarter of 2011.
