The number of cases has tripled in one month, the situation is rapidly deteriorating in the region

Occitanie is far from escaping the new wave of Covid-19 contamination. “In our region, the incidence rate is now increasing sharply and rapidly with an average rate of 93.9 per 100,000 inhabitants, against 64.3 the previous week, and a daily number of positive cases detected by the contact tracing teams which has almost tripled in one month ”, indicates the
regional health agency in its latest newsletter.

Ariège, Tarn-et-Garonne, Hautes-Pyrénées, Aveyron and Lozère have all exceeded the threshold of 120 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. In Ariège, the mask is thus again compulsory in the pubic space for people over 11 years old in eleven municipalities.

The number of daily positive cases detected thus increased from 543 cases last Tuesday to 893 this Tuesday, or 350 more cases every day in a week. Even though 79.1% of the population has received at least a first dose of vaccine, this new wave is not without consequences on hospital services. Healthcare establishments are currently caring for 590 people with Covid-19, or 38 more in a week. Among them, 112 are in intensive care or critical care, or 14 more in seven days.

“With the arrival of winter viruses, the first sporadic cases of influenza having been reported in our region, more than ever we must mobilize to protect ourselves and the most vulnerable. Vaccination, whether as a first injection or as a booster dose and respect for barrier gestures are essential, in particular in this period conducive to gatherings and indoor activities, ”recalls the Regional Health Agency, which calls people over 65 years of age. to make an appointment for their booster dose of the anti-Covid vaccine.
