While the Nintendo Switch OLED is no longer in need of an introduction, you might want to know more about the HD version of Skyward Sword before jumping into the game. So here is the summary of our test in which the game has managed to get the very good mark of 16/20!
Strong points
- A still enchanting adventure, which comes into its own in its second part
- Fantastic dungeons and well-thought-out puzzles
- Several moments of anthology
- The original soundtrack, sublime
- Motion gaming controls that gain in precision and offer full camera management
- The possibility of doing the entire game with the buttons and not with motion gaming
- An artistic direction that benefits from the graphic facelift
- Much less talkative and intrusive than the original game and therefore much better paced
- Wielding the sword like a swordsman is still very nice
Weak points
- The first three hours remain laborious
- A less instinctive camera management when playing in “button mode”
- Some ergonomic issues
- Textures that show the weight of years
Nintendo seems to have heard the criticisms leveled at 2011’s Skyward Sword and drastically toned them down. By offering alternate controls and minimizing interactions with Fay that broke the rhythm of the adventure, this new version goes further than other remasters and changes what needed it most. If it shows its age when one is interested in the textures or certain questionable ergonomic choices, it nevertheless offers a gripping adventure which gains all its magnitude in its second part. Skyward Sword HD is a must for anyone who didn’t discover the title at the time and a pleasure for veterans who would like to set off on an adventure on the back of their Célestrier Vermeil. The latter will only be able to appreciate the much more sustained rhythm of the adventure and will rediscover in excellent conditions the origins of this legendary saga.
