No, the three white figures in the floor-to-ceiling showcase next to the entrance are not the highlights of the newly renovated State Archaeological Collection in Munich. They are “just placeholders,” as collection director Rupert Gebhard admits when asked. They want to point out the special exhibitions in the future. The fact that there are currently only three archaeologists at work is due to the fact that the special exhibition has not yet existed. But it will be exciting to see what will happen there in terms of multimedia and immersion from autumn onwards. However, the 600 square meter, newly created, underground cube currently exudes the charm of an underground car park in its emptiness. At the opening, however, the focus will be on the newly renovated house and the newly set up permanent exhibitions with their exhibition concepts. And rightly so.
