Article 2 of the health bill examined in the National Assembly last night was not adopted. It provided for the possibility of imposing until January 2023 a health pass at the borders and for travel with Corsica or overseas.
A dramatic change in the National Assembly. The presidential majority was once again outvoted last night by the elected representatives of Nupes, the National Rally and the Republicans. The deputies indeed voted against article 2 of the bill “now provisionally a monitoring and health security system in the fight against covid-19.”
This article, rejected by 219 votes against 195, provided for the possibility of imposing a health pass at the borders and for travel with Corsica or overseas.
The opposition immediately welcomed such a vote. “Sanitary pass in the trash. The time of playmobils is over!” tweeted the president of the LFI group Mathilde Panot.
“The situation is serious”
But the presidential majority deplored the “marriage of love” between La France insoumise and the National Rally. “We didn’t have to wait very long in the end”, launched Bruno Millienne, MoDem deputy for Yvelines.
On Twitter, Elisabeth Borne reacted in the middle of the night. “The time is serious. By joining together to vote against the protective measures for the French against Covid LFI, the LRs and the RN prevent any border control against the virus”, she launched.
“Passed the disbelief on this vote, I will fight so that the spirit of responsibility prevails in the Senate”, writes the Prime Minister, the senators can still restore article 2 in the bill.
The text adopted in the middle of the night
In the state, the text therefore confirms the expiry on August 1 of the “exorbitant common law” framework of the state of health emergency and the crisis management regime put in place at the end of May 2021.
Its article 1, adopted earlier in the evening, allows however, due to a still fragile epidemic situation, to continue to collect health data on screening tests (SI-DEP device).
After long hours of debate, the text was finally adopted in the middle of the night.
