The Munich Film Festival has only just come to an end when the next film festival is already coming up: to be more precise, it is the Oberaudorf Music Film Festival, which will open on July 6th with the documentary “Cicero – Two Lives, One Stage”. Director Kai Wessel tells the story of the jazz pianist Eugen Cicero and his son, the singer Roger Cicero: Both were considered exceptional talents, both died far too young. The film’s producer and drummer Charly Antolini will be guests at the presentation in Oberaudorf’s Kursaal.
The Music Film Days are taking place for the 15th time and little has changed since the first edition in 2008: the program should be as diverse as possible, full of feature films, short films, documentaries and also music films. The audience can look forward to Steven Spielberg’s magnificent remake of “West Side Story”, but also to documentaries such as “Italo Disco – The Glitter Sound of the 80s”, “Le Mali 70” or “Wagner, Bayreuth and the Rest of the World”. The films have already been shown in cinemas or at other festivals, so exclusivity cannot be the goal for a relatively small event like this.
The organizers, organized in an association, want an atmospheric festival in a rural setting with carefully selected films and an attractive supporting program. There will still be a world premiere in 2022: Andreas Hinterseher’s documentary “Odyssey – A Journey into the Light” about the World Music Band Quadro Nevo will be shown for the first time, the band will give a concert on the evening of the premiere. The film music composer Gerd Baumann, known for his collaboration with Marcus H. Rosenmüller, will also perform live with his band parade in the spa park.
A great event, which of course is also about location marketing: Oberaudorf’s Mayor Matthias Bernhardt is delighted that the Music Film Days “are no longer only recognized regionally, but are also visible nationally”. And since other regions of Bavaria also want to be visible, film festivals in the Five Lakes Region, Kaufbeuren, Hof or at Tegernsee are coming up in the coming weeks and months.
