The diversity of society is not reflected in the fire department’s emergency services. Sonja Danzl, the KVR’s diversity officer, wants to change this. She campaigns for more women in emergency services and in administration.
When Sonja Danzl visits the men of the Munich professional fire department for the first time, she senses their defensive attitude. “It’s not a topic where everyone claps when you come,” says the diversity officer at the district administration department (KVR). It is intended to ensure that the fire department becomes more colorful and diverse. So she first puts the topic of “gender justice” up for discussion. Many minds are ignited by the term. At the fire department, too, the listeners probably feared that “someone would come along and teach us how to speak in a gender-appropriate manner,” says Danzl. But they were wrong.
