The Munich company Air Up is stirring up the beverage market – Munich

What began in 2016 as an idea for a bachelor’s thesis now has five million customers: the Air Up drinking system by Lena Jüngst and Tim Jäger, which flavors water solely through scent. The two got to know “retronasal smell” during their product design studies. Aromas rise from the oral cavity through the throat into the nose – the brain interprets the stimuli as taste. The two used this principle for their drinking system and founded a start-up in Munich in 2019, which today employs almost 300 people from more than 40 nations and has now moved to new premises in the Werksviertel. Just a year and a half after it was founded, Jüngst can say: “Our business model has proven to be profitable.”
