Costumes are a longstanding tradition at Star Wars Celebration conventions and this year’s London celebration is no exception. In this specific area, there are two schools: that of purists who want to copy the outfits of the characters in the saga down to the smallest detail and the others.
The first spend crazy sums could go up to several thousand euros. They often take themselves a little seriously posing as if they were inhabited by the good guys or the bad guys they embody. The latter are more imaginative like this smiling gentleman who turned into George Lucas for 20 euros. “We know I’m not him because I have an English accent,” he jokes. It is true that otherwise the illusion would be perfect.
This retired couple also had fun taking on the appearance of Darth Vader and the Emperor. “We have been married for forty years and we are both fans, explains the lady. We wanted a fun idea that would allow us to appear together. Vader’s costume cost a little more, especially for the saber and the helmet, but I sewed the rest myself. »
Among the most successful, we also loved the IG-88 made of pure cardboard (with holes for the eyes). “It’s similar, tells us the voice coming out of the tube. And I only had thirty euros of expense and three hours of work. Fans jostled to pose with him just as much as with a cast of the most successful cardboard Mandalorians. “We only made our costumes in three evenings while drinking beers, explains one of them. It cost us practically nothing except a trip to the supermarket to pick up boxes. »
And then there are the quirks who not only have strange costumes but who seem to have gone completely out of convention like this gentleman wearing a uniform of star trek with an alien (admittedly disguised as a stormtrooper) coming out of his chest. “That way, I can attend several shows and it’s profitable!” he explains. Unmistakable even if hard-core fans glared at him.
We also have a big weakness for Charlie who haunts the corridors trying to embed himself in the photos. And who frankly makes smile even the purists so much his good mood is communicative.
