The Ministry of Ecological Transition “closed” for climate inaction

“Easy police, it is for your children that we are acting. » There were between 100 and 150 who joined together this Monday morning in front of the Ministry of Ecological Transition in Paris, to demonstrate against the government’s climate inaction. And close, symbolically, the doors of the stronghold of Minister Christophe Béchu. “We are asking the government to review its energy plan and its climate policy,” explains Mathilde, from the movement “Network getting out of nuclear power”.

Alongside him, activists from seven other movements, NGOs and environmental collectives, including Greenpeace, Extinction Rebellion and Alternativewere also present to participate in the construction of a fake wall in front of one of the entrances to the ministry, Boulevard Saint-Germain.

For a 100% renewable energy mix

In the early morning, climbers roped up to hang a banner in front of the ministry announcing its closure “for climate inaction”. A symbolic action ahead of the many times postponed presentation by the government of two energy laws, planned by the end of 2023.

“The government must absolutely prioritize sobriety. And guarantee an energy mix of 100% renewable energies,” said the spokespersons of the environmental movements into the microphone that they, in turn, passed to address the activists.

Activists who were trying, for their part, to reach another entrance to the building in front of which three climbers were waiting to unfurl a second banner, were stopped and then gassed by police officers.
