The Ministry of Culture said on Sunday that it was particularly satisfied with the Heritage Days. Freed from restrictions due to Covid-19 and with the opening of more sites to the public, the 39th edition was “a success”.
For this edition on September 17 and 18, 16,000 places opened to the public against 15,000 in 2021, including 3,000 on an exceptional basis, specifies the ministry. More than 25,000 events have been organized in mainland France and overseas, including many activities dedicated to sustainable heritage, the theme of the 2022 edition.
Reopening of the BnF Richelieu
Among the highlights, visitors were able to admire the Richelieu site of the National Library of France (BnF) in Paris, rich in 300 years of history, which has just opened to the public after twelve years of work. They were also able to discover the use of sustainable materials, in particular for the work undertaken in the cathedral of Beauvais, which is being restored by the State.
Among the most visited places in the Paris region which welcomed around 20,000 visitors, the ministry cites the Château de Fontainebleau, the Mobilier national and the Senate – Luxembourg Palace in Paris.
In the regions, the Abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel (Manche) and the Château d’Angers (Pays-de-la-Loire) attracted more than 10,000 visitors, according to the ministry, which does not give an overall figure for attendance. .
