The Minister of Transport assured Franceinfo that prices will not increase on several SNCF offers, in particular the Ouigo and Intercités trains. He also clarified the contours of the future rail pass.

Prices will not increase in 2024 on several SNCF offers. The Minister of Transport Clément Beaune announced a freeze on prices for Ouigo and Intercités trains as well as on the advantage card, Thursday December 7 in the 8:30 a.m. broadcast of Franceinfo. “The train must be affordable and popular. There was a tariff shield during a period of very high inflation last year. I want us to have a new rate shield next year but one that is a little different“, explained Clément Beaune.
“We will take four measures“, announced the minister, before detailing them. “There will be a freeze on prices on the Ouigo. It’s one TGV in four, it’s the TGV that people who have a little less means take. This makes it possible to have high speed accessible on many lines”declared Clément Beaune.
No increase in the advantage card in 2024
Same measure regarding Intercity trains: “trains that have been neglected“, borrowed by “more than 12 million French people each year, who tell me every day that it’s complicated, that it’s a hassle“.”It’s a question of respect“, says the minister.
Clément Beaune also announces having “required from the SNCF that there be no further increase in 2024” ceiling prices for tickets purchased with an advantage card, while these ceiling prices increased in August 2023. This measure concerns “almost 5 million French people” per year.
The rail pass launched next summer, “around 49 euros per month”
He finally confirms that the State will “launch the rail pass by next summer, a measure to reduce prices which will allow, for a very affordable price, around 49 euros per month, unlimited travel on the TER and Intercités”while specifying that the price and terms are being refined with the regions.
“These four measures are concrete measures for more accessible trains, particularly everyday trains”welcomes Clément Beaune.
