The Mérignac nautical stadium project suspended by the administrative court

A hard blow for Bordeaux Métropole. While the construction of the nautical stadium in Mérignac, a project of metropolitan interest, is in the final phase, the basins are filled, the equipment is ready to operate by the end of the year, the judge in chambers of the administrative court of Bordeaux decided to suspend the building permit, we learned on Thursday. “This decision is made following a long procedure initiated by a dozen residents around this equipment” specifies the president of Bordeaux Métropole, and mayor of Mérignac, in a press release.

At the heart of this dossier, the absence of an “impact study”. On September 14, the Administrative Court of Bordeaux demanded that it be carried out within twenty months. In the meantime, the magistrate decided to suspend the construction site.

Opening delayed for several months

Alain Anziani “recalls that the metropolis followed the recommendations of the State which, in March 2020, did not recommend an impact study to launch the construction of the nautical stadium”. The mayor of Mérignac today “appeals to the responsibility of the applicants and challenges them on the consequences of their approach which may delay the opening of this remarkable facility for the inhabitants of the city and the metropolis by several months”. . The residents behind the appeal are concerned about the noise pollution that the presence of several slides could cause.

The cost of the works for this project is approximately 40 million euros (57% for Bordeaux Métropole and 43% for Mérignac). It is supported by a consortium that won the call for tenders for the public service concession, made up of Eiffage, UCPA, Dalkia and Banque des Territoires. Chabanne Architecture and Blamm Architecture are the firms that designed the equipment.

Bordeaux Métropole will lodge an appeal with the Council of State: “All avenues of appeal are studied to open the equipment as soon as possible. »
