The mental load of executives almost as high as in the midst of the Covid-19 crisis

After the bottom of the wave, the rise? It all depends on the strength of the waves, and the energy available to go up… While we could have expected a slight upturn, the mental load of executives in France is now almost identical to that felt during the crisis. of Covid-19. This is the lesson of the third Ifop barometer for moon card* unveiled this Wednesday.

To make this observation, Ifop relies on its “mental load index”. Via a scale ranging from 1 to 10 (10 being the worst), it mixes six pieces of information about the person: stress at work, thinking about work in the evening, on weekends, the impression of not getting out of it, difficulty falling asleep at night and the feeling of intrusion of his professional life into his personal life. Result: the average index is 4.5 out of 10 in 2022, compared to… 4.6 in 2021.

Construction and transport in the hard

Everyone does not take the lead with the same intensity. The youngest executives (under 35) thus pay for the stress of their entry into working life, with an average index of 4.9. And contrary to what one might think, having children is more of a protection than an additional burden: executives without children have an average score of 4.7.

On the sector side, pressures on prices and the lack of labor are having repercussions. The index for construction and transport executives is 5.6; it stands at 5.2 in trade, hotels and restaurants. Civil service supervisors manage to disconnect much more easily (3.6).

Desires from elsewhere

As a result of this mental load that does not fall, the desire to look elsewhere is very present: 58% of the managers questioned think “sometimes” to resign, and 24% “often”. And among those who are fed up, 50% have a desire “stronger than a year ago”.

Women are the most affected: 65% want to change jobs, against 54% of male executives. Ditto for young people (65%) and for Ile-de-France executives (63%). The “palm” goes to construction managers: 8 out of 10 want to know if the grass is greener (or a little less yellow) elsewhere.
