Summertime is outdoor time, and that also applies to dancing: raves and festivals in the open air, preferably during the day, even for days. For once, the Munich area has something ahead of the big city when it comes to locations. After all, techno parties tend to take place in urban clubs like Blitz, Rote Sonne or Harry Klein (RIP).
But in the summer, everyone in Munich is drawn out into the surrounding area, cyclists and ravers alike. And this weekend, the goal of their trip could be Dorfen, more precisely the Megaton Festival on the site of the former brick factory.
With its industrial look, the Tonwerk, as the culture and event venue is called, is less reminiscent of a rural idyll than of places like the Werksviertel or Schlachthofviertel in Munich. Since 2019, the Megaton has also been taking place on the abandoned factory site as a one-day house and techno festival, this Saturday for the third time. The start of the festival before the pandemic began did not go entirely smoothly. The police ended the event five hours earlier than planned. The reason for this was not, as is known from Munich, neighbors annoyed by the bass, but safety concerns due to the adjacent train tracks.
In 2020 and 2021, there was also a two-year break due to Corona before the event could take place again last summer. Since then it has been attracting local and international artists to Dorfen, this time with DJ Hell, among others. The Munich native is one of the internationally best-known German electronica artists. He is also known in the region as a club operator in Traunstein and from appearances on smaller stages such as the Stoa in Edling.
Stefanie Raschke also plays at Megaton. For a long time, as resident DJ, she played melodic techno sets at Harry Klein. Since April she has also been a booker for the Berlin record label “Stil vor Talent”. And then there are Julian Wassermann, Caravel and Tini Gessler, to name just a few more of the 30 Megaton acts – enough program for a day-long party until the early hours of the morning. And should the weather not cooperate, the organizers have provided an indoor alternative.
