In office since 2021, David Lisnard announced on Wednesday that he will be a candidate for a second term at the head of the influential association of mayors of France (AMF) in November. The mayor of Cannes will present “a union list bringing together all political sensibilities” in tandem with his PS vice-president André Laignel. The two elected officials boast in a press release of their “agreement” concluded two years ago which “allowed all [les] decisions are taken unanimously.
Right and left will therefore go together again to the congress of mayors, at the end of November in Paris, which will renew the authorities of the AMF. The candidates have until September 11 to make themselves known and, at this stage, no other candidate has come forward against the outgoing leaders.

A rising figure in the Les Républicains party, David Lisnard, 54, who also launched his own New Energy for France party, succeeded François Baroin in 2021. He had then already made an alliance with the irremovable socialist mayor of Issoudun, André Laignel, 81, first vice-president of the AMF since 2008.
Their pair won on the centrist list led by the UDI mayor of Sceaux, Philippe Laurent, and supported by part of the right and Emmanuel Macron’s camp.
