The mayor bans a Dieudonné show scheduled for this Friday

The mayor of Lyon, Grégory Doucet, has just issued an order to ban the show Under bracelet: an extraordinary spectacle de Dieudonné, scheduled for this Friday evening at 8 p.m., in Lyon. The elected official justified this decision, which he had already taken last August for another representation, by recalling that the individual had “been the subject of numerous criminal convictions for having made negationist speeches, inciting racial hatred or advocating terrorism.”

“Faced with the risk of disturbances to public order, the prefect of Rhône fully supports the decision of the mayor of Lyon and invites the mayors of other municipalities in the department to take the same measures if the location of the representation were to change,” said indicated the municipality in a press release. The prefecture specified that it will take “the necessary measures” for “the proper execution of this decree”.

An address communicated only to people holding a ticket

The exact location of the show, announced on the Dieudonné website, is only communicated to people who have purchased a ticket, shortly before the start of the performance, city services said.

Two weeks ago, Dieudonné had referred the matter to the administrative court after an order issued by the mayor of Montpellier, banning his event. Justice had suspended the measure and allowed the show to go ahead. The same day, the Bordeaux administrative court took a similar decision, in the Gironde prefecture.
