Shortly before the final, it’s over: Annemarie Carpendale and Andrea Sawatzki were eliminated in the semifinals of “The Masked Singer”. Four candidates duel in the final.

The bear no longer dances – and the amphibian fails: In the music advice show “The Masked Singer”, actress Andrea Sawatzki (“Tatort”) and presenter Annemarie Carpendale (“taff”) were exposed in one episode. Sawatzki was dressed as a dazzling axolotl – also known as the Mexican tailed amphibian. Carpendale forced himself out of a fluffy teddy suit on Saturday night. Both received too few votes from the audience and had to reveal their true identity. They narrowly missed the show finale next Saturday.

Sawatzki had interpreted her role as Lurch in an extremely comedic manner. The axolotl played childish jokes on stage and invited prominent guests of the show several times to take a look at his “shell collection”. Because of all the faxes, many assumed that a comedian would be under the mask – for example Martina Hill (47, “Knallerfrauen”). Sometimes opinions also diverged as to whether a woman is really dancing across the stage in the crumple costume. The axolotl’s song was too idiosyncratic. One tip was: Otto Waalkes (73).

The Masked Singer: Sawatzki was mistaken for a comedian

“I never expected that I would be mistaken for a man. That surprised me a bit,” said Sawatzki. Somehow she “grew together” with the role. Although she was also happy to be rid of the amphibians: “It’s so warm!” The 58-year-old became known, among other things, as Frankfurt “Tatort” commissioner Charlotte Sänger. Moderator Ruth Moschner was the only one on the “Masked Singer” council team who caught up with her. How confused Sawatzki’s appearances were, could also be seen from the tip of councilor Joko Winterscheidt (42): He suspected moderator Elton (50), once a partner of Stefan Raab (55), under the tailed amphibian mask.

Annemarie Carpendale, on the other hand, put in a logistical masterpiece for her performances. The 44-year-old is one of the moderators of the ProSieben magazine “red.” – and it runs live right after “The Masked Singer”. The double role could only be mastered at all because both are produced in the same studio in Cologne. And yet it required a lot of organization. Carpendale said she changed clothes 18 times on her own on the first show. Their participation also had other obstacles during the season: The teddy had to sit out temporarily – because of a corona infection despite a full vaccination.

Joko Winterscheidt was right with his tip

Around 20 years ago Carpendale – who married Wayne Carpendale (44) in 2013, the son of pop singer Howard Carpendale (75, “Hello Again”) – was a member of the summer band Bellini (“Samba de Janeiro”). “I didn’t really sing then,” said the moderator. She’s been doing television for 17 or 18 years now – and was still extremely excited. “I have to say: I was really shitty.”

Joko Winterscheidt in the rate team had actually guessed Carpendale – although that was because of her job at “red.” actually seemed impossible. The 42-year-old recognized a laugh on the teddy bear that sounded familiar. At the same time he let himself be carried away with a joke with the bear lady, who posed as a frail shag with a walking stick: “She always makes you look a little older – and Annemarie is no longer the youngest either,” he said . Shortly before the exposure, he said as a precautionary measure: “In the event that it’s Annemarie Carpendale, I want to make it clear again that old age was a joke.”

In “The Masked Singer” celebrities appear as singers who hide their true identity behind opulent costumes. Only gradually are they exposed – if they get too few votes or win the season. There are now four masked candidates in the final: a garbage monster named Mülli Müller, a proud heroine, a pug with googly eyes and a caterpillar.
