“The Masked Singer”: Jennifer Weist wins as the ice princess – and pleads for more empathy at Christmas time

As an ice princess she made everyone melt: singer Jennifer Weist has that Won ProSieben show “The Masked Singer”. The musician – known as the front woman of the German-speaking rock band Jennifer Rostock – left all remaining competitors behind with her singing in the finale of the ninth season and secured the most votes from the audience.

In this she competed against three other costumed celebrities: a mustang, a troll and a so-called Lulatsch. The latter in particular has become a stubborn competitor. The more than three meter high plush creature with a cotton candy look had become a fan favorite.

In the end, the long Lulatsch lost out and ended up in second place. Actor Pasquale Aleardi (“Commissioner Dupin”) emerged from under the shaggy head. The mustang galloped across the finish line in third place – actor Hendrik Duryn, known, among other things, from the RTL series “The Teacher”, was hiding in the horse outfit. Fourth place went to the troll, from which singer Mieze, frontwoman of the electro-punk band Mia, emerged.

In the show, celebrities appear as singers but hide their true identities behind masks. Only her voice and complicated clues give any idea who is on stage. Whoever is thrown out of the show or wins it at the very end has to make themselves known.

The season that has now ended also included actor Uwe Ochsenknecht (masked as a kiwi bird), singer Katja Ebstein (Okapi), model Eva Padberg (fire extinguisher), journalist Jenke von Wilmsdorff (Martian mouse) and singer Tim Bendzko (Santa Claus’ brother Klaus). Claus). Ochsenknecht was at the center of an unusual incident in the live show, which was built on secrecy. In an episode at the end of November, the mask in his bird costume accidentally slipped, briefly revealing his face.

Ruth Moschner had the right nose

As the winner of the ninth season, Weist succeeds singer Luca Hänni, who last won the format in a shoebill costume. Aesthetically, her triumph was more reminiscent of singer Sarah Engels, who impressed as a skeleton in the third season – in a very graceful, cool costume.

The fact that Weist floated across the stage as a princess was already considered a reliable tip before the unmasking. In the show’s guessing team, only Ruth Moschner guessed correctly. Her colleague Rick Kavanian, on the other hand, chose Anke Engelke. Entrepreneur Judith Williams was also wrong, but was full of praise for the ice princess, who, among other things, performed Mariah Carey’s languishing ballad “Hero” in the show. “Every cell in the body vibrates and lets out this voice,” Williams said with emotion.

Jennifer Weist gave herself a big gift one day before Christmas Eve. Still disguised as an ice princess, she said that she wanted a lot of “love and warmth and empathy” for the people “out there” at the festival – “because we often live in a very cold world.” Then she sounded as stately as a queen – and no longer like a princess.
