The Marseille prophecies of “20 Minutes” for 2024

Born on December 14, 1503 in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, Michel de Nostredame, known as Nostradamus, made a name for himself in history with the publication in 1555 of Prophecies, a book in which he devotes himself to the art of divination. And obviously with success, since several prophecies are attributed to him which came true, and some even during his lifetime like the one where he predicted the cruel death of King Henry II, died after receiving the splinters of wood from a spear in the eyes on July 10, 1559 during a joust (these ceremonial tournaments where the noble knights competed against each other) opposing him to Count Montgomery. See his poem on this subject:

The young Lyon, the old will overcome/In a warlike field by singular duel/In a cage of gold his eyes will go out/Two classes, one then die a cruel death

The interpretation of this quatrain has been made as follows: The “young” lion refers to the Count of Montgomery who wore this animal as an emblem, the “old” refers to King Henry II. It was during this duel, given on June 30, 1559 as part of his son’s wedding festivities, that the count’s lance broke, projecting shards of wood through the golden helm (the “golden cage”). “) of the king, lodging in the eye. The king then died for ten long days, a “cruel” death, if ever there was one.

This earned him fame during his lifetime and the honors of royalty, since he was appointed physician to King Charles IX and remained close to Catherine de Medici, queen regent of the kingdom of France from 1560 to 1563 and mother of Henri IV. Astrologer, mathematician, apothecary, Nostradamus saw far into the future since some of his divinatory quatrains attributes to it numerous anticipations such as the terrible fire that ravaged London in 1666 or the use of the first nuclear bomb in Hiroshima in 1945.

According to specialists, Nostradamus compound quatrains are valid for the year 2024. In particular, there will be “a powerful earthquake that will shake a full theater” and a new “young, dark-skinned” pope. From there, “20 Minutes” played the game, unearthing authentic (non) predictions from the famous astrologer concerning the city of Marseille.

The flame of the Olympic Games (almost) safely home

In Moon Taurus nove matina/Feucionnet of water and navile coming/By prepotent mistrau shipwreck will do/Great Olympia people of Lacydon helping

The summer of 2024 will be that of the Paris Olympic Games, with the flame due to arrive from Athens to Marseille on May 8, 2024 aboard the three-masted Belem which will enter the Old Port. And without a doubt, it is indeed a tragedy with a happy ending that Nostradamus promises us here. “Moon Taurus nove”, applies to May 8, 2024, the day when the new moon will enter Taurus, the astrologer carefully calculated. What follows echoes a little fire (“feucionnet”) coming from the water and by a ship which is wrecked by a powerful mistral (“mistrau”, in old Provençal). But the people of “Lacydon” (the ancient cove which today houses the Old Port) come to the aid and save the great Olympiads, that is to say the Olympic Games.

Jul (yes yes) mayor of Marseille

A found of the people of great renown/That Coliseum of Marsilia filled/With many steel bowls sold/Alderman of his native city will become

This is a prophecy that Benoît Payan, the current mayor of Marseille, should be wary of. According to the Provençal soothsayer, 2024 could be the crowning year for the rapper Jul, designated here as a popular poet of great renown (“finders”, literally the one who finds the verses). this intuition is confirmed by the following two verses, which refer to his concert at the Vélodrome “Coliseum de Marsilia”, and to his status as the artist who sells the most records. Naturally, CDs did not exist in the time of Nostradamus, but the parable “steel bowls” seems quite precise in the eyes of specialists. Finally, the word “alderman” designated municipal magistrates until the French Revolution.

The President (again) visits Marseille

Young Jupiter, in his second time again will come/In the house of the children of Phocaea royal visit/With force francs, announcements will resurface/Courtiers & ministers praise, contrarians protest

This is a prediction for which we could criticize Michel de Nostredame for its ease, if there were not 500 years between his writings and today. In the quatrain that we are going to develop, the author of Prophecies, anticipates for Marseille (“in the house of the children of Phocaea”) a “royal visitation”, in other words a royal visit. Without a doubt, therefore, as Emmanuel Macron (“Young Jupiter”) will come to Marseille in 2024, as he has done at least once every year since his election in 2017. In the summer of his first election for vacation, in 2018 with Angela Merkel, in 2019 for the Sommet des deux rives, in 2020 to see Didier Raoult, in 2021 for act I of the “Plan Marseille en grand”, in 2022 for his in-between meeting tours, in 2023 for Act II of Marseille in grand style, then for the visit of Pope Francis.

A title (finally!) for OM

Long famine, duration of the year four times three/Little coupo santo in haven old re-raised/Jubilation, blue & white bulwarks/Eleven round gentlemen celebrated

Although cryptic, this quatrain is enough to give balm to supporters of Olympique de Marseille. According to Nostradamus, the OM players (“Eleven round gentlemen”) will lift a minor trophy in the Old Port in 2024, which is suggested by his verse “Petiote coupo santo en havre ancien resoulevée”. This prophecy is even astonishingly precise, since it mentions the absence of titles experienced by the club, which won its last cup (a late League Cup, of course) in 2012, i.e. “duration the an four by three” (4×3 = 12).

The end of settling scores

Of blood rivers, of the North too flowed/Apothecaries devils bandits, mouths of fires killed/By men of arms the hydra heads cut off/Children of Marsilia fruitful years of peace were

A touch of hope in this very true and sad prophecy. The year 2023 is marked by a record number of “narchomicides”, with 48 deaths at the time these “prophecies” are written. Drug traffickers, designated as “Devil Bandit Apothecaries” have in fact shed abundant blood from their “mouths of fire” (firearms, therefore). The non-standard spelling of the 16th century maintains confusion over the interpretation of the second verse over which debates among specialists of Nostradamus and Old French literature rage. Some argue that the “tues” refers to the verb to kill while others claim that it is the verb “to silence”. On the other hand, everyone is in agreement that “men at arms” refers to the action of the police which is increasing operations against the various Marseille drug trafficking networks (“the hydra”).

The vocabulary and spelling used for our “prophecies” are inspired by the old French lexicon of Frédéric Godefroy and a little Provençal and a touch of imagination
