Helicopter to fly over the vastness of the American steppe for a photo shoot? No problem. Drones to photograph the Kremlin from above? Definitely a problem. But not one that Dieter Blum would have capitulated to. One could almost think that the now 87-year-old photographer, who has burned himself into the collective memory of an entire generation of smokers with his photographs of the Marlboro Cowboys for the American tobacco company Philip Morris, was looking for such challenges. He says, “I always got what I wanted.”
