He is the creator, writer and producer of the acclaimed television series The Mandalorian. Now US director Jon Favreau is trying his first “Star Wars” film.

“Iron Man” director Jon Favreau (57) is going back into the “Star Wars” universe. Favreau will begin filming “The Mandalorian & Grogu” this year, the “Star Wars” producers announced on the film website. “I love telling stories set in the rich world created by George Lucas,” Favreau said in a statement.

This would be the first feature film from the Star Warrior world since “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” (2019), which was directed by JJ Abrams. With “The Mandalorian” on the Disney+ streaming service, Favreau had already created a “Star Wars” television series as an inventor, author and producer. In it, Pedro Pascal plays the eponymous bounty hunter, alongside Grogu, known as “Baby Yoda”. As a producer, Favreau also worked on the “Star Wars” series “Ahsoka” with leading actress Rosario Dawson.
