The Louvre museum closed this Saturday “for security reasons”

The museum received messages concerning bomb threats, BFMTV learned from a police source. The police carried out an investigation this Saturday noon.

The most visited museum in France closed this Saturday. The Louvre Museum announced this Saturday, October 14 on X (formerly Twitter) that it would remain closed for the day.

“For security reasons, the Louvre Museum is closing its doors today, Saturday October 14. People who have booked for a visit during the day will be reimbursed,” wrote the museum.

This closure is due to verification measures linked to the triggering on Friday of the “emergency attack” level of the Vigipirate system after the knife attack which left one dead and three injured in Arras, the museum told BFM Paris Île- of France. The museum received messages about bomb threats, BFMTV learned from a police source. The police carried out an investigation this Saturday noon, according to the same source.

Exceptional mobilization of resources

Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne “decided to raise the Vigipirate posture to the emergency attack level”, the highest level of this security system, indicated Matignon after a security meeting at the Élysée around President Emmanuel Macron. It can be put in place immediately following an attack or if an identified and unlocated terrorist group takes action.

It allows the exceptional mobilization of resources, but also to disseminate information likely to protect citizens in a crisis situation. France was until now at the “reinforced security – attack risk” level, which corresponds to a high level of terrorist threat.

Up to 7,000 soldiers from the Sentinel force will be deployed in the territory by Monday and until further notice, the Élysée announced on Saturday.
