The long-awaited sequel will be presented at the opening of the Annecy festival

The little yellow creatures are finally back. The Minions 2: Once Upon a Time Gruthe highly anticipated sequel to the animated film which was a worldwide success in 2015, will premiere during the opening night of the Annecy International Film Festival, organizers announced on Tuesday.

Created in 1960, the Annecy Festival is the major event for animated cinema in the world, as is its international market which brings together the biggest studios dedicated to the animated image each year.

The first images of “Buzz Lightyear” and “Spiderman”

After two years of pandemic, this festival returns to its usual format from June 13 to 18 and promises “a fireworks display of creativity and diversity”. The 2022 selection “wants to testify to the vitality of animated cinema” with an official selection of ten films, including Charlotte by Eric Warin and Tahir Rana (Belgium/Canada/France), which evokes the Jewish-German painter Charlotte Salomon who died in Auschwitz at the age of 26. Goodbye, DonGlee! by Atsuko Ishizuka (Japan), Forbidden to dogs and Italians by Alain Ughetto (France/Italy), Le Petit Nicolas: what are we waiting for to be happy? of Amandine Fredon and Benjamin Massoubre (France/Luxembourg), are also in selection.

The 2022 Annecy Festival will also present the first images of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One), Puss in Boots 2: The Last Quest, Ernest and Celestine, the trip to Charabieas well as Buzz Lightning world premiere from Pixar Animation Studios.
