The lion’s den: Why aren’t there handbags with cooler compartments for men?

Chic invention – but why isn’t the handbag with a cooling compartment for men?

When aubergines taste like fish and a little button heals the bones again, the cash register rings in the “Lion’s Den”. But there were also products that raised eyebrows, such as a design cooler bag for women: Carsten Maschmeyer: “Why isn’t there something like that for men too?”

“It’s unbelievable when there’s no fish in it,” said Ralf Dümmel, who was delighted with the vegan salads from the North German food startup button like here. The founding duo, mother and son, are descendants of a fish snack family and have banned fish from their delicatessen creations. Everything is great, but: cold chain, the fear scenario of the lions since season 1. Who would prevail – Dümmel’s belly or his head?

The presented products

  • brunch bag: The “handbag for working mums” has an integrated cooling function.
  • enterone: The mini wastewater treatment plant for yachts and houseboats relies on biological decomposition processes and does not require any chemical additives.
  • Opel Props: The ventilation system is particularly small and provides fresh air in masks and helmets.
  • button like: The vegan fish salad alternatives are based on pickled aubergines and, according to the manufacturer, hardly differ from the originals in terms of taste and consistency.
  • trigid: The button, developed by physiotherapists, can be attached to sports and physio tapes and is used to relax muscles. (here’s Triggid in a pack of 2)

The most vegan fish

Mother and son were already getting ready for the no-deal exit. All investors – except for Carsten Maschmeyer (“I don’t like these replacement things”) – had the fish salad alternative from button like praised. Judith Williams even claimed that she liked the cooked and pickled aubergines better than fish. But nobody wanted to invest. Even Ralf Dümmel canceled. Too much effort with production and cooling. Dagmar Wöhrl took heart. “You are brave,” she said, “why shouldn’t I be brave too?” Eyes got wet on the stage. The son in particular, a former theology student, gave free rein to his feelings. The fish salad dynasty from Flensburg is starting a new round, only this time without fish.

Green deal of the week

Nico Rosberg is the proud owner of an eco catamaran. No wonder he was the wishing lion of the founders of enterone was. The family business – father, two sons and daughter – already makes millions in sales with its maritime bio-sewage treatment plants. “Why are you here?” Dagmar Wöhrl asked, not without reason. “It can’t be the money.” You guessed it right: The startup would like to expand to the USA. The main focus is on the large marinas on the west coast. Carsten Maschmeyer was immediately wide awake and spread his contacts in California. Rosberg was ahead on the home straight – and made a leap of joy that was at least as big as in 2016 when winning the world championship.

Triggered by the “miracle tool”

Just a small nub and the lions put together the really big package. At least three of them. Maschmeyer, Dümmel and thus also the Kofler associated with him absolutely wanted the deal trigid. According to the three inventors, the therapeutic button should work wonders and bring physiotherapy to your own four walls. “Clever idea”, agreed Nils Glagau and entered the competition. His argument: “Our worlds fit together perfectly.” However, the trigger trio opted for the Dreier-Löwen.

Of the star Triggid took a closer look at the trigger button. You can read the detailed test report and the verdict here.

applause and out

“That’s exactly what I was looking for,” said Nico Rosberg, and the features of the founder of Opel Props brightened up briefly – “but five years ago.” When the former Formula 1 driver was still sitting in the cockpit and sweating out four liters of water in every race. The mini-aerators, which fit under any helmet, were not an investment case for the other lions either. Too niche, too special. The inventor will be able to get over it. He equips the costumes on “The Masked Singer” with his system. Also the brunch bags received the rating “niche product” (Wöhrl”). As the founder put it, “working mums” and the “modern business women of today” are supposed to transport their lunch to work in the design bags. “This is by far the fanciest cooler bag that ever seen,” said Judith Williams appreciatively, but she didn’t spare her criticism either: “Your bag needs more than one function.” The inventor has to sit in detention again.
