Money money money. The Professional Football League (LFP) wants money. By launching its call for tenders for 2024-2029 TV broadcast rights for Ligue 1 abroad this Friday, the League is hoping for a significant increase compared to the current low amount. The annual foreign broadcast rights for Ligue 1 are currently around 80 million euros per year.
This figure is much lower than other major championships: more than 160 million per year for Germany, 670 million euros for Italy, almost 900 million for the Spanish La Liga and almost 1.8 billion for the Premier English League. The president of the LFP Vincent Labrune has confided on several occasions that he is counting on a significant increase to reach the objective of one billion euros in total, with rights in France.
“The possibility is given to candidates to submit offers for global, regional or country rights, over three and five seasons,” specifies the LFP. The deadline for submitting tenders is November 2, 2023 at 3 p.m..”
