The Last Dinner Party take rock into the future – with a lot of theatricality

Indie rock band The Last Dinner Party’s performances are all about ecstasy. These five women are leading rock into the future – with a lot of theatricality.

Starting an album with opulence and orchestra is like a promise. The velvet curtain is still closed, the tension is rising, a fluttering feeling is spreading in your stomach – theater magic, the really big show. This is what the indie rock newcomers The Last Dinner Party are counting on. They have been very successful with this since last summer. For example, they appeared as the opening act for the Rolling Stones.

Their story goes like this: Three students met, made music together, and two more young women joined them. In the smoking corner of a London pub they discussed the concept of their future band. What should the atmosphere be like at the shows? How should people feel?

The five of them designed their own fantastic world. “We imagined a dinner party somewhere at the end of the world with extravagant guests like Oscar Wilde or Grace Jones,” says singer Abigail Morris in a video call with the band. Their performances are about ecstasy: “The audience should scream, cry, laugh.”
