The “Lascaux of the seas” is told in comics

A Chauvet and Lascaux-style replica, and now a comic strip. A year after the inauguration of the replica of the Cosquer cave, the adventure of this fabulous discovery made in the seabed of the Marseille coast in 1985 by Henri Cosquer is told in comics.

Turtle editions, based in Hyères, carried out the project. The drawings are signed by Dominique Serafini, a friend of Henri Cosquer who had been able to take part in the first exploration dives of this cave with astonishing rock paintings, access to which is 36 meters deep in the Calanques. The texts are the work of Thierry Felix.

“Comics are the best way to tell this whole story,” commented Henri Cosquer, who had filmed the prehistoric cave and its paintings. “It is difficult to render the volumes by the image”, had judged the discoverer of this cave. Conversely, the drawing allows this fair restitution as well as a more complete narration, also involving the other people who helped Henri Cosquer in this discovery of a lifetime.
