The king’s way astray: Two Wolnzacher streets are one too many – Bavaria

What they have there in Wolnzach with their Wolnzach streets could of course sound surprising at first. After all, somehow all streets in Wolnzach are Wolnzach streets. The fact that there should be exactly two of them would be little for a market town with soon to be 12,000 inhabitants. But there are exactly two Wolnzach streets in Wolnzach, that’s the problem, and for outsiders it’s also confusing in a completely different way. Because one could generally assume that a street in Wolnzacher leads to Wolnzach, just like the Pfaffenhofener Weg leads from there in the direction of Pfaffenhofen – even if most people from Wolnzacher would rather take the Wendenstraße after Pfaffenhofen, but that clearly leads too far away from the two Wolnzacher streets.

According to general understanding, these Wolnzach streets could only lead to Wolnzach if you weren’t already in Wolnzach, and that’s where the Bavarian regional reforms from the 1970s come into play. Until then, Niederlauterbach was an independent community that had every right to have a Wolnzacher Straße in the direction of Wolnzach. It was no different with Gosseltshausen, which, like Niederlauterbach, was merged into the market town of Wolnzach in 1971 and also brought along a Wolnzacher Straße. Since then there have been two Wolnzach streets in this market town of Wolnzach, which wasn’t actually the plan of the regional reformers, but it must have somehow slipped through ever since.

It was always clear to the Wolnzachers themselves anyway, and even more so to the Niederlauterbachers and the Gosseltshauseners. But since more and more people are guided by their navigation devices and, in this special case, are often misled, first a few annoyed residents of at least one Wolnzacher Straße and then the Pfaffenhofen courier put the matter back on the table. To the annoyance of other residents, by the way, because renaming the street would be a blessing for the wandering parcel carriers, but would involve some effort for everyone else involved. In any case, the minimum solution would not be enough: They already have a Wolnzach path in Wolnzach. In Königsfeld, which was incorporated in 1971.
