The day after the death of singer Naomi Judd, The Judds were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Her daughters Ashley, 54, and Wynonna Judd, 57, were present at the ceremony despite their loss. “I’m sorry she couldn’t make it through to today,” Ashley Judd said tearfully on stage. “Even though my heart is broken, I will continue to sing,” Wynonna added. The event skipped the red carpet.

Musical performances came from country singers Carly Pearce, 32, Gillian Welch, 54, and David Rawlings, 52, who performed the Judds hits “Grandpa (Tell Me ‘Bout the Good Old Days)” and “Young Love (Strong Love)” covers. Brandi Carlile (40) performed “Love Can Build a Bridge” via video link from home due to a positive COVID-19 test.

Wrestled with mental illness

Judd died on Saturday at the age of 76. The official cause of death is unknown, but her daughters said in a statement that she had been wrestling with a mental health illness.

Judd rose to fame as one half of the singing duo with her daughter Wynonna, scoring 14 number one hits on the country music charts between 1983 and 1991. Just this month, the duo reunited at the CMT Music Awards for their first TV performance in 20 years. Another tour, announced as The Final Tour, was due to start this September.
