A gray wall, a plain table. A woman sits in front of an open book, her lips moving. To hear what she’s saying, you have to put on the headphones handed to you at the checkout. With the hint that it would be most comfortable to sink into one of the huge seat cushions. The video lasted almost an hour. So you have descended the steep stairs into the basement of the Jewish Museum of Franconia in Fürth, entered the dark room – and chosen a chair. With the headset over her ears, the words of the woman on the screen are suddenly there: “It is vain to detoxify the poison. They brew fresh. It is vain to live for them and die for them. They say: He is Jew.”
