Deputies denounce the “horror” of an “attack on humanity” after the projection in the National Assembly of images of the massacres of October 7
“Attack on humanity”, “fright” And ” horror “ : deputies expressed their emotion on Tuesday after the screening in the National Assembly of a film showing the massacres committed by Hamas commandos on October 7 on Israeli soil. “I believe that those who saw this video will not be able to sleep in peace for a long time”confided Renaissance MP Mathieu Lefèvre, describing the facts recounted in this forty-minute film as “an attack on all of humanity”.
Mr. Lefèvre was at the initiative of this screening, proposed to members of the France-Israel friendship group of the National Assembly which he chairs, behind closed doors, without telephones or collaborators. The film was made by the Israeli authorities from extracts of shots contained in the cameras and phones of Hamas fighters, killed or taken prisoner, and images captured by victims and rescuers. It shows killings and tortured corpses of adults and children.
Éric Ciotti (Les Républicains) said he had “had to look away” faced with the horror of certain passages. “The images I saw are extremely violent”confided for his part the deputy La France Iinsoumise David Guiraud during a brief intervention. “I think I will never forget to respect all the dead”concluded the elected official, at the heart of a controversy after declarations concerning the abuses of Hamas in Israel.
In a video published on social networks on Saturday and captured during an intervention in Tunis, we hear him pronounce the following sentence: “The baby in the oven was indeed made by Israel, the disembowelled mother was made, it’s true, by Israel”. Then after a hesitation: “I think it was in Sabra and Chatila. » Elected from the North, David Guiraud is, among the “rebellious” deputies, one of the most fervent defenders of the Palestinian cause and one of the most severe detractors of Israel.
The massacres of Sabra and Chatila, in 1982, were committed by Lebanese Christian phalanxes allied with Israel during a military intervention by the Jewish state in Lebanon. But Israel was also held responsible for not having prevented these massacres which left between 800 and more than 2,000 dead in these Palestinian camps.
