The investigation for “aggravated sexual assault” targeting Cardinal Ricard has been dismissed, the Marseille prosecutor’s office announced on Saturday. The investigation was opened last fall. “The procedure has been closed due to prescription,” the prosecutor of the Republic of Marseille, Dominique Laurens, told AFP, confirming information from France Info.
Jean-Pierre Ricard, former archbishop of Bordeaux, had admitted, via a message to having had, when he was parish priest in Marseilles 35 years ago, “reprehensible behavior with a 14-year-old girl”.
